EBSnet, Inc. an established provider of embedded internet software since 1987 announces RTOS and TCP-IP solutions for the MPC8272 PowerQUICC II™ processor family of integrated communication processors from Freescale™. Specifically, drop in OS and network stack support is available for Freescale™/Embedded Planet’s™ EP8248E evaluation board.
The MPC8272 family of processors integrate an embedded PowerPC 603e® core and a RISC-based Communications Processor Module enabling high frequency processing at low power. CPU frequencies of 266 – 400MHz operate on as little as .8 watts. An integrated security engine is included, supporting industry standard encryption algorithms.
EBSnet’s RTKernel RISC has been specifically designed for the faster RISC platforms like MPC8272. The core of the RTOS offering is On Time Software’s RTKernel-32, a popular kernel for x86 based embedded systems. RTKernel RISC shares the majority of RTKernel-32’s C language source code with added driver, cpu, and board support for the targeted RISC processor.
The RTKernel RISC is a powerful real-time multitasking scheduler for embedded systems. It is compact (about 16k code, 6k data), fast, and offers excellent real-time response times. All RTKernel-32 threads run within a single program (single process, multi-threaded).
The EBSnet TCP-IP network stack includes a PCI interface as well as support for a wide range of PCI based Ethernet interfaces and a full suite of networking application protocols. EBSnet’s MPC8248 package includes support for the dual 10/100 Ethernet, SMC/SCC Uarts and a file system with USB host and target support.
